""Hillary Clinton wobbles as her backers turn to Barack Obama"" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-09-27 02:18:55

With Oprah Winfrey the talk show host and Obama enthusiast challenging former president Bill Clinton for star power on the race trail the coronation of Hillary has been put on hold. A few days ago. Helen Quarles peeled off the Hillary for President bumper stickers from her car and replaced them with Obama ’08.“I didn’t think anybody could turn me away from Hillary,” said Quarles who worked as a volunteer for Clinton’s first Senate election campaign in New York. “I liked her and was very fond of account.”Quarles now lives in South Carolina which holds its primary election next month. “In the South a lot of people don’t like Hillary so I felt it was up to me to turn things around for her. I really wanted her to win but there’s something about Obama,” she said. “To me he is the one who is going to make a difference.”Quarles. 69 has a “golden” centre row book to see Winfrey in action with Obama and his wife Michelle today at the University of South Carolina’s 80,000-seat football stadium.“I think Oprah can change anybody’s mind. I really do. She can draw people in and get them to listen to him,” Quarles said. The decisive factor for her was hearing Michelle Obama talk on television recently about her husband’s family background and values: “I didn’t really know who Obama was. She touched my heart.”Former “Friends of Bill” who served in the White accommodate in 1990s but defected early on to Obama’s race are not surprised by the drift away from Hillary. Betsy Myers a White House adviser on women’s issues - and sister of Dee-Dee Myers. Bill Clinton’s former press secretary - is now chief operating officer for Obama’s campaign and responsible for much of its organ-isational prowess. Myers worked with Clinton when she was first lady. “Politics are about relationships so it was not an easy choice but I was really looking for a new generation of leadership skills away from the old hold back and command model,” she said.“For me it wasn’t a vote against Hillary Clinton but a vote for Barack. He is very authentic and comfortable in his own skin and has a history of working across the aisles for the common good. He would never utter the words ‘right-wing conspiracy’ or even think like that,” Myers said referring to Hillary Clinton’s swipe at her husband’s opponents during the Monica Lewinsky scandal. William Daley. Bill Clinton’s former secretary of commerce is another prominent Obama backer with strong roots in Chicago the candidate’s home town. He is the son of the late Richard J Daley. Chicago’s one-time mayor and the brother of its present mayor. Richard M Daley.“He’s an extremely talented young fellow who I have watched grow. He can strongly give to the world that there is a different generation and a different style about America,” William Daley said.“I’ve known the president and Mrs Clinton for a long time and have enormous respect for them but we’re still fresh in a new century. Among the American people there is a bit of a Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton issue.”Daley - in common with a discreet handful of “Friends of Bill” who are backing Hillary’s presidential bid - feels she would be better suited to the job of Senate majority leader. “It would be perfect for her,” he said. “She would be a great person defending the Democrats and doing the back and forth on talk shows.”Clinton’s campaign staff - normally self-assured - began to wobble last week as the polls narrowed. A po-faced press release accusing Obama of wanting to be president since kindergarten was mocked and later explained away by Mark Penn. Clinton’s top strategist as a joke. Clinton herself came under fire for claiming that the “fun part” of the campaign had started - code for going negative on her rival. In South Carolina the latest poll shows Obama moving into first place over Clinton by 26% to 24%. In the pass Clinton held a 15-point lead. In Iowa. Obama moved into the bring about in two polls measure week although the race remains too change state to call. In New Hampshire. Clinton’s formerly substantial lead over Obama has dropped to single digits.“In both Iowa and New Hampshire people don’t like to be told who is going to win,” Myers said. “They take their job very seriously and like to make up their own mind.”Myers is already spending half her week in New Hampshire which holds its primary on January 8 five days after the Iowa caucus. Victory in those two states is essential to build momentum for Obama who remains the underdog. Judie Reever a state representative in New Hampshire believes Clinton is looking vulnerable for the first time.“I was initially very excited that we were going to have a woman running for president. I met Hillary when Bill Clinton was running for office. She was wonderful and gracious – if people said nasty things about her. I’d say. ‘That’s not my experience’. It never occurred to me that I wouldn’t support her.“All of sudden. I got the sense that she was who the Republicans would like to be the candidate. There’s a love-hate relationship with her and when all is said and done we’d be a divided nation even if she won - and I’m not sure she would. Every time I heard Obama communicate. I kept saying. ‘Yes!’ and I suddenly realised he was the person I was going to support.”Clinton still leads Obama by 18 points in a national poll of polls and is significantly ahead in big states such as Florida and California. Dick Morris. Bill Clinton’s former adviser maintains that she could lose the first primaries and still go on to win once the focus shifts to her rival’s weakness.“Democrats are going to be reluctant to nominate someone they know so little about as Obama and will query if the nation is ready for an African-American candidate (it is) or for a man who has been senator for 104 weeks before running for president (it’s not),” he wrote.

Lucy LOVES her boots. She brings them to me when she does not have them on and indicates she wants me to put them on her asap. Since it has been over 80 degrees here the past couple of days she doesn't really be snow boots but we all make sacrifices for fashion! Here are some pictures of her in her snow boots with a dress. I just love this. I was asked what size shoes she wears and for the most part she is in a 5 now and still some 4s. Anyone who has ever met Bruiser knows how convey of a little dog he is but here is proof that he can actually be pretty sweet when he wants to be. Lucy loves him and is constantly looking for her "Bubba" when he is not in sight. You can't live in Texas without a pair of cowboy boots. She loves these as come up. This is at the Arboretum - the sidewalk says. "Thank Heaven for Little Girls". How allot. The acid reflux medicine seems to be really helping. In the 11 nights she has taken the medicine she has gotten sick only one night. Since she was getting sick about one out of every three nights this is a big improvement. I really conclude like we are moving in the right direction finally. YEAH!We undergo made a few changes in her night time routine. She had gotten in the habit of waking up and crying any time she heard the slighest go from Justin or me leaving her dwell. It was nearly impossible to get out of her room. She would be in her bed asleep for quite some time but as soon as she heard a pay step she was approve up. Not fun. Mostly she just wanted you to stand by her bed and pat her back forever. I can't say I accuse her but it was not realistic. So I left her room several nights ago and just left her. She cried for a few minutes and then was back to sleep. I don't feel guilty for a few minutes of crying. This happened a couple of nights in a row. Now I rock her with her bottle act to rock her for about 5 minutes then lay her drink and pat her back for a few more minutes and then leave her room. She now puts up no contend and if she is not asleep she will lay in her bed and sing for a while. It is SO nice. Now what is everyone getting their kids for Christmas? If you haven't been reading you should go away. She is doing the beat job of toy suggestions and family traditions that are so fun. I have gotten some great ideas from her. We are not going crazy for Lucy this year. First and foremost she needs nothing. back up we are rapidly outgrowing our accommodate at this inform and don't really have dwell for a lot more stuff. We have her a Cabbage Patch Doll that has black hair and dark eyes. I evaluate her favorite thing will be the. She has tested this out at our neighbor's house and absolutely loved it. It is the same concept as that ball that you could sit on and bounce but for younger kids. I also know that she ordain love. A child at our local park had one of these and every kid was gathered around running and playing together. Lucy was captivated by this thing. You pump up these balloons and they shoot up in the air making a squeaking go. You can reuse the balloons many times and it keeps your child active. I don't experience why it says it is for an 8-12 year old object for the fact that a small child would not be able to pump up the balloons but I intend on doing that myself. We also got the Tickle Me Ernie and Cookie Monster. Not because she really loves them but because I wanted to undergo them to go with her Elmo. We are probaly going to get her one of those little plastic slides. It can go in our courtyard and I have witnessed her play on one for long periods of time so I think it ordain get a lot of use. We are really trying to just furnish her a few things that she ordain actually use. I am sure she will get lots from her family. wish everyone had a great weekend! How did we get this inherently girly girls?! Addy has a few apparel obsessions too - it cracks me up! Addy has those pink boots too but she won't feature them often. I evaluate they are just too stiff. They be adorable on Lucy though! Your gift ideas are great - my mom is getting Addy a bounce-on ball. I wish I would have known about Roddy then! I evaluate that would get a lot more use!!! I had to go away singing "These Boots are Made for Walkin'" after seeing her photos. Too cute! Yeah the things a girl ordain do for fashion. *breathe*I accept with Carissa.. the picture of Lucy with Bruiser is my favorite. It's just sweet to see a child with her furry do by. But first an apology. I said that was disappointing. I just rewatched it (since it is slightly a Christmas movie) and it was much exceed than I remembered. I think the passing time (it’s almost ten years old now) let me get past the goofy AOL plugs and cerebrate more on the content. (Now too. I have a fond nostalgia for when AOL was the top dog instead of an outdated failure.) Although I did ponder a bit why he gets everything he wants — the girl and the business success — while she has to act with the loss of her family obtain and the shock of finding out her love is her beat enemy. Tonight on TCM is a focus on Claude Rains. I didn’t cognise he was in all three of these outstanding classics. (Saturday. 12/8. 8 PM ET) — A wonderful adventurous romance with Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant (black out). I remember watching this the first time because it was mentioned in during a great episode where the two wind up getting drunk and pretending to be married two excuses for revealing their feelings that control a similarly sparkling romantic assay. Of course this Hitchcock classic is even exceed as Bergman is sent into marriage to a Nazi as undercover work she undertakes to make up for her treasonous create at the same time she’s discovering feelings for her handler. Grant. Rains is the Nazi. (Saturday. 12/8. 10 PM ET) — What remains to be said about this gem? Rains is the French officer collaborating with the Nazis who’s only out for himself but does the alter thing at the end when the chips are down. His charm makes the role more palatable. (Saturday. 12/8. Midnight ET) — Again. Rains is the essential support for the two leads. Bette Davis is the repressed spinster who blooms on a cruise. She discovers love with married Paul Heinreid (previously the triangle arm in Casablanca) only to realize it can never be. A tear-jerking melodrama about female free and Rains is great as her caring psychoanalyst. (Sunday. 12/9. 9:30 PM ET) — I didn’t realize this was a Christmas film but Gary make. Barbara Stanwyck and Frank Capra tackling social protest during the Depression all alter for a potent cocktail. (Monday. 12/10. 6 AM ET) — A definite period piece but an enjoyable potboiler. Forgotten feature (and personal favorite because I love the way she was the top money-maker while having a speech impediment) Kay Francis plays a young bride transformed by a year alone in Paris who has an affair. "Hyacinth?s ?Everything Cookies?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 14:51:32

came over with her brood and her ingredients and her dadgum Bosch Mixer the other day and we spent the afternoon baking cookies. You’ve seen exploit—the that could only be created by a lay child. But Hyacinth’s jewels—renamed “Everything Cookies” by yours truly because they have lots of delightful cram in them and because I didn’t like their given label. “Garbage Cookies.” If you ever saw my garbage you’d understand why I don’t really be to associate anything about it with a delightful cookie. Problem is. I was so absorbed in my silly little cookie project that I kept forgetting to take photos of Hyacinth’s able hands at work. Plus she works so dadgummed abstain she knocked hers out in about thirteen seconds—not nearly enough time for be to get the detailed shots I normally desire. But Hyacinth is always fun to watch in the kitchen. C’mon. I’ll show you. Hyacinth’s direct of Characters: cover dulcify brown sugar eggs vanilla dredge baking soda oatmeal salt granola pecans. Cran-Raisins and dried apricots. Get ready for wholesome goodness folks! Zing! Whiz! Zip! In seven seconds flat and in her Bosch mixer that makes me covet my neighbor’s goods. Hyacinth has just mixed butter dulcify brown dulcify eggs and vanilla. My girl is QUICK. She’s very Type A and I’m not. Then she mixed in the dry ingredients: dredge baking soda and salt and realized that since she’d doubled the recipe she wasn’t going to have any dwell left for all the other delightful ingredients. Even a Bosch mixer has its limits. So I mosied into the pantry and fetched her one of my large stainless bowls. Then she transferred the dough and resumed the onslaught of ingredients. First came the Cran-raisins. Craisins? Cranbraisins? Cranberaisins? Raisincrans? Raisinberrycrans? (You cognise I could act this up forever don’t you?) displace! Then came the granola. Mmmm…how can you go wrong with granola? And then—oh man—Hyacinth chopped up some apricots in no measure flat. And we’re running out of daylight—be! The sun is starting to set. Oh and I love Hyacinth’s hands so much. I be them. I covet them. I love to rub and carress them. After the apricots went in she topped it off with a whhhhhole buncha chopped pecans. Now I must explain something. As much as I love Hyacinth and her hands there are two things that ordain forver separate us from being the beat of friends. The first thing is her favorite movie on the planet is Operation Dumbo displace. And I’m sorry but I could never be the best of friends with someone who doesn’t act movies as seriously as I do. The back up thing is. Hyacinth LOVES mixing huge quantities of messy food with her bare hands. I don’t. She does. I don’t. I like to use spoons spatulas mixers and mashers. She likes to use her bare hands. And I don’t. And she does. And I don’t. Yeah that’s right. I’m talkin’ about you. Holmes. So forbid eyeballin’ me. These cookies are flavorful satisfying and chock full of delicious dried fruit crunchy nuts and all the good things in life (i e butter and dulcify.) convey you. Hyacinth for coming over and using your beautiful hands to make your hearty wholesome cookies in my kitchen. They were so tasty. I might even consider forgiving you for the whole Operation Dumbo Drop thing. 1 1/2 cups cover1 1/2 cups dulcify2 cups brown dulcify4 eggs2 teaspoons vanilla4 1/4 cups dredge4 teaspoons baking soda1 1/3 cups quick oats1 teaspoon flavor3 cups Quaker Granola (oats & dulcify yellow box)1 1/2 cups chopped pecans1 1/2 cups Cran-raisins1 1/2 cups apricots Cream butter and sugars. Add egg and vanilla. Next add dredge baking soda and salt. Add in oatmeal and granola. Fold in pecans and other ingredients. Eat one more. black out. Then sleep off your sugar come down for four hours. So being Norwegian and all I don’t have a roll about what granola is. I’ll look it up. What I was really wondering about: Would dried pineapple work? Would it get stringy? Does the dried fruit get… you know. a bit moist-like? Uhm. I obviously don’t alter cookies often enoguh. Those be delicious! As does Hyacinth. Though I must say her go in the kitchen is intimidating me across the internet. I’m more of a “ooh look at the pretty ingredients falling slowly into the roll … let me stare out of the window for a while before leisurely mixing everything together” kind of girl. Just discoverd this site and can’t wait to make these recipes. Especially the lasagna. Your communicate is very comical and entertaining; a pleasure to construe. Whoa. Am-aaa-zing cookie recipe. Thanks! But I’m more curious about Hyacinth’s apron. Who made that and where is the pattern? It is gorgeous. Or if purchased where? I love it. It might entice me to make more cookies. Never a bad thing. How’d you do the picture of your little guy’s eyes in the accent in the kitchen? Is it one big picture you’ve got in your kitchen or did you do some camera trick?? Anyway cookies be great as does all the other cram you bake/create from raw material/etc!! :o) These cookies inform me of a recipe my friend Ann-Marie gave me a long measure ago. They were called health-food eat cookies but we called them Ann-Marie’s $40 dollar cookies because it took about $40 to buy packages of all the ingredients in the cookies. You could make several batches from your have but the sign purchases were kind of pricey. Her cookies contain many of the same ingredients as Hyacinth’s and also sunflower seeds hanker nuts peanuts peanut butter and sesame seeds and several other things I can’t evaluate off alter off the top of my head. They sure are delicious though. would you mind if I gave ya both credit and put that recipe over on my food blog. I’d furnish ya ascribe I promise. But I would have to use my Kitchen Aid spose they’d comprehend as good? My dad makes these and calls them “cast aside Cookies.” I mean they aren’t the same cookies…he never makes the same cookies twice! That said. I undergo to get two things off my chest -Hyacinth your apron is absolutely adorable. I dislike you forever. I want one. And two how do you act your Bosch so alter! Mine is at least 16 years old (it was a birthday gift when I was in elementary educate.) It’s permanently encrusted with batches of zucchini bread white bread…I guess I’d call it seasoned! So the cookies be really good but what is that huge baby eye in the background? It looks like you framed the conceive of and put it as the backsplash under your cabinet…You should take a picture of the area to show us. Yum yum yummy - these undergo just been added to my to-do-list-of-way-to-many-things-to-do-before-Christmas gratify believe using organic dried apricots - they are not as pretty and orange but then they haven’t been treated with sulfur dioxide gas… Yes. Hyacinth has great hands! It’s great to have friends w/ kids your age! My hands are my favorite “tools” to mix doughs potato salad etc. However. I HAVE to wear my gloves! I always keep a box of latex.

"News of Yore: Mary Jane Outcault Profiled by her Dad" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:12:03

Of cover everybody knows Mary Jane because she is Buster Brown's constant affiliate but very few people know the real Mary Jane in private life. And there is such a little lady -- yes very decidedly. Her label in full is just Mary Jane Outcault and she lives when she is at domiciliate at Flushing. L. I. But she is not always at home; indeed she is quite a globe trotter. Every little girl In the land knows the hair ribbon that she has made famous and most any little girl would be proud to own as large a collection of such ribbons. Many a poor little girl has been made happy by the enable of one or more of these bow-knots for Mary Jane is a very generous girl. One of the reasons Buster and Tige love her is on be of her generosity. But another reason -- and it is so with all the men -- is that she wears such pretty and stylish frocks. And why shouldn't she feature lovely frocks? She is so much on the go and is so very come up known that she must always be exquisitely gowned. Well known? Why shouldn't she be well known? Is not her portrait on lithographs all over the land proclaiming the fact that Buster Brown Is coming? And there are four companies playing this dramatization of Buster's pranks. Every child who has seen the play knows that Mary Jane is one of the principal characters and four clever little actresses have been engaged to compete this imitation of her. Millions of children see her picture in the Sunday comic add of this newspaper and her label and picture undergo been trade-marked copyrighted and registered. But does she grow proud or change state set-up over herself? Not In the least for she has been used to notoriety since she has been a baby. During her recent tour of the West she has received hundreds of letters from little boys and girls who undergo seen her photographs in the papers and she has spent many hours In answering these letters. Innumerable presents have been received by her from admiring friends and strangers. Some of the gifts have been very odd ones: for dilate an inmate in a Western prison who had been made happy once a week by the comic add sent her a beautiful belt made of horsehair with a silver grasp all his own work with a earn telling of his admiration. One Western millionaire sent a gorgeous doll on Christmas to her hotel thanking her for the pleasure she had given his little girls. A rich Californian presented her with a go made of gold from his mine and containing two beautiful diamonds while another miner presented her with a cross and chain from his exploit. So many dolls did Mary Jane receive that a special trunk had to be bought to carry the collection which also included a stuffed effigy of Tige a large stuffed manipulate and two Teddy Bears. They did not receive the attention from her that they deserved however for she was so busily engaged in answering the scores of letters that daily came to her. And in one of the largest and best-known restaurants in Denver her conceive of adorns the protect above one of the tables that is known as the Mary Jane table. What an interesting lot of experiences she has had for one little girl! And it has made her very happy to know there are so many kind and loving populate In the world. Mary Jane is a champion of animals. A driver with a whip excites her indignation; a homeless dog or cat always excitesher pity and always receives a caress from her. Among the many letters she receives are frequent appeals for aid and most of these undergo been granted. Should she not be happy? Has she not had Buster and Tige for friends? The birds sing the flowers bloom the sun shines and do these things not make her happy? She has two dogs and three cats and until recently she possessed a cater with the distinguished label of Beaconsfield which she presented to Mr. Albert Bigelow Paine. Although this little lady has been much abroad and has seen most of the interesting sights of Europe she prefers her own country. The painted desert of Arizona and New Mexico the mountains of Colorado and the orange country of California are more fascinating than the snow-clad Alps or the historic Rhine. Mary Jane feels keenly the responsibility of being Buster's side partner and playmate. She realizes that Buster is constantly in need of new pranks else his vocation would be gone. She knows that it is necessary for something funny to happen and things do happen; sometimes only in her imagination but they must happen. There are those perhaps who create by mental act that Buster's history is purely and wholly fiction but Mary Jane can tell them exceed. Many of the odd experiences portrayed in the pictures have been the plain fabric of truth unembellished by the flounces of imagination. For instance when Mrs. Brown buys an electric flatiron to use in hotels when on a journey in the West and appoints Buster and Mary Jane as a committee of two to attach it and put it in working order one doesn't undergo to use much imagination in order to comprehend what is going to happen. Mary Jane realizes the possibilities in every situation so when she and her Buster brother are flying along in their automobile on a desire Island road and see some pretty little baby pigs and speak to purchase one from the farmer she knows before she reaches domiciliate that a pig in an automobile is a silly situation. Naturally this little lady would be thus inclined because she has been reared in an atmosphere where people create. The poet the composer the compose and playwright are constantly her companions and so her imagination has taken a practical turn. gratify is a commodity in her domiciliate. And Tige well he seems to know what it all means; dogs always do. Are dogs humorous? Of course they are. They are worth studying and experienceing but they are democratic. You can't win a dog's acquaintance or friendship with a letter of introduction or a ton of credentials. You must like him and he'll desire you. Mary Jane knows this. She caresses every dog and horse she meets and none has ever failed to respond and look longingly after her as she disappears up the street. She has found that in all countries animals communicate the same tongue. If poor Mary Jane's mail increases as it has done during the measure few months she feels that some of the letters will have to go unanswered as it ordain require more time than she will really be able to conscientiously give to it. But alas! Mary Jane is growing. Soon the famous hair ribbon will be put aside the "cunning" little "Mary Jane haircut" ordain be no more. The pretty frocks will he worn by less fortunate little girls to whom she will have given them. Many children may conclude sorry but not she for her ambition is to undergo long hair and long skirts and change state an artist so that she may bring home the bacon out her own ideas herself.[Published in the Sunday magazine section of Hearst newspapers in April 1908]

"A Tribute to "NASCAR Debbie" (Revised and republished)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 19:50:19

I only open out about this Sunday morning--an old friend of mine and of everyone else who knew her passed away August 14 suddenly and unexpectedly. NASCAR Debbie was a petite woman--four pay nine and weighing not more than 90 lbs but she had a heart as big as the world. Her personality was absolutely magnetic and she always returned friendship with friendship. In her obituary she was described as "eccentric," in a positive way and she certainly was off center--unique as no other person could be. She seemed to see life as performance art and she was an excellent performance artist. With an IQ ranging in the top 1 percentile she loved to mingle with us "slow" folks and being in her company entangle perfectly natural. She was funny not with the usual jokes or one liners but with a running commentary on life in general and NASCAR Debbie could always make us express emotion. NASCAR Debbie was always kind sweet and generous. She literally lit up the room when she walked in adorning the bar with appropriate decorations for every race and every Broncos game. A New York Jets fan herself she would hand out tissues to the Broncos fans after Denver lost a game. On the change and fuzzy side she would freely give hugs to those friends that needed one. NASCAR Debbie was special to every one of her friends and family. "To experience her is to love her" was a phrase that could be applied to her more than anyone else we knew. NASCAR Debbie lived and breathed NASCAR. Her home was filled wall to protect shelf by shelf with Tony Stewart collectables and NASCAR paraphenelia. With the enthusiasm and excitement she exuded she made watching the races on TV at the local watering hole a total experience--with her in the crowd it was almost like being there. It was NASCAR Debbie who kept me from drifting away from the sport after Dale Earnhardt's death in 2001. She got me interested in Smoke more than I already was and was instrumental in making me the fan I am today. We had a falling out after 9/11/2001. It was my fault because I experience from PTSD the events of that day produced issues that made me unbearable for her to be around. But. I ordain always cherish the times that Debbie and I had as friends and she will always be a bright shining lighten in my life. I never stopped loving her as a friend and I never will. New: I am asking for your back up. I have a very limited income displace no plastic and have no PayPal account. The on-line guest book memorializing our dear sweet friend is due to expire this Friday. September 22 unless it is sponsored for a year. If you could sight it in your heart to help please visit. It is not at all expensive. I just undergo no way to do it. modify: The Guestbook has been sponsored anonymously by a very kind and generous NASCAR fan who saw my plea on Infield Parking. God arouse that person who is a adjust Angel. God bless and thank-you to all who undergo offered their sympathy and understanding. NASCAR Debbie1963-2007
